The 129th Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association Boys Track and Field Championships and the 54th Girls Track and Field Championships will be held Friday-Saturday, June 6-7 at the Veterans Memorial Stadium Complex on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
On the girls side, senior Thea Kral of Ashwaubenon is the two time defending State Champion in the Discus having won the event in 2023 and 2024. Kral had a throw of 162’6” in the Discus in last year’s state meet. Kral is also the defending State Champion in the Shot Put, having won last year’s event with a throw of 46’7.75”. Kral enters this year’s meet as the top seed in both events. Senior Tessa Campbell of Manitowoc returns to the State Meet in the 400m Dash as the 3-seed. Campbell finished 6th in the 400m Dash in 2022 and 2024. Campbell will also compete in the 200m Dash and she anchors the top seeded 1600m Relay team (Eichmann, Jansky, Jalbert, Tellen, Bierman). Junior Olivia Sprangers of Pulaski is participating in her third straight state meet and has qualified for four events (100m, 200m, LJ, 800m Relay). Sprangers is hoping to reach the podium for the first time this year. Girls athletes who have qualified for multiple events at this years state meet include Aubrey Kopling – De Pere (400m and 1600m Relay), Camille Haller – Preble (3200m Run and 3200m Relay) and Olivia Knowles – Sheboygan South (100m and 200m). On the boys side, seniors Andrew Cartier of De Pere and James Flanigan of Notre Dame Academy are back to defend titles. Cartier will defend his Triple Jump title having lept 48’5.25” last year. Carter also qualified in the Long Jump and will look to improve on his 6th place finish from a year ago. Flanigan’s throw of 59’.75” garnered him a D2 State Championship in the Shot Put in 2024. Flanigan has also qualified in the Discus where he finished as a runner-up in 2024. Flanigan experienced success in 2023 winning the D2 Discus with a throw of 177’10” and finishing 2nd in the Shot Put. Junior Grady Lenn of De Pere will look to improve on his podium finishes from a year ago having finished 6th in the 1600m and 3rd in the 3200m. Lenn enters this year’s meet as the top seed in the 1600m Run. Senior Joseph Hunt of Notre Dame Academy returns to the State Meet in both the 800m and 1600m runs. Hunt finished 3rd and 4th respectively in last year’s D2 meet. Hunt enters as the top seed in this year’s 800m run. Hunt will also anchor the 3200m relay team which qualified for this year’s meet. Hunt was a member of the Notre Dame Academy 3200m Relay team who won the State Championship in 2023 and finished as runner-up in 2022. The Green Bay Preble 3200m relay team (Nuthals, Piontek, Michaels, Goral, Mohamed and Arlt) enters as the top seed in this year’s meet. Boys athletes who qualified for multiple events at this year’s meet include Carter Thompson – Ashwaubenon (800m, 1600m Relay), Carter Fontaine – De Pere (Shot Put, Discus), Ryan Bintz – De Pere (400m, 1600m Relay), Braylon Schadt – Preble (200m, 800m Relay), Jordan Goral – Preble (800m, 3200m relay), Yahye Mohamed – Preble (1600m, 3200m Relay), Benjamin Piontek – Preble (3200m, 3200m relay), Jacob Nuthals – Preble (3200m, 3200m Relay), Keaton Dauk – Pulaski (200m, 110m Hurdles, 300m Hurdles), Ryan Lang – Sheboygan North (800m, 3200m Relay), David Venegas – Sheboygan South (400m, 1600m Relay) and Richie Flanigan – Notre Dame Academy (Shot Put, Discus).
