Boys and Girls Basketball 2023-24 All-Conference Teams Announced

The FRCC has selected the boys and girls basketball All-Conference teams for the 2023-24 season.  Coaches met at their end of season meeting to select the teams.  Seven players are selected to the first team, seven players to the second team, seven players to the All-Defensive team, an Honorable Mention team is selected, as well as Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year and Coach of the Year.

FRCC Girls All-Conference Basketball

The First Team All-Conference girls team was a team of experience as seniors filled all seven selections.  The team was led by Player of the Year and unanimous First Team selection Trista Fayta of Notre Dame Academy.  Gracie Grzesk – Notre Dame Academy, Claire Bjorge – De Pere and Addie Pytleski – Green Bay Southwest were also selected to the first team as unanimous selections.  Ellie McDermid – Bay Port, Syd Whitehouse – Notre Dame Academy and Sophe Hafeman – De Pere rounded out the first team.  Fayta, Grzesk, and McDermid are repeat first team selections.  Pytleski, Whitehouse and Hafeman were Second Team selections a year ago.

Notre Dame Academy also placed two players on the Second Team All-Conference giving the Tritons five all-conference players between the first and second teams.  Junior Peyton Musial of Notre Dame Academy is a repeat member of the second team.  Sophomore Kaia Waldrop of Notre Dame Academy is a first time selection to the second team.  The remainder of the second team consists of first time selections to the first or second team FRCC all-conference teams, They include:  Seniors Helena Paplham – Green Bay Preble and Alex Siudzinski – Green Bay Southwest; Junior Gianna Guarascio – Ashwaubenon; and sophomores Sarah Bolchen – Manitowoc Lincoln and Maggie Lardinois – Pulaski.

The FRCC Girls All-Defensive team for 23-24 has four repeat selections in Fayta, McDermid, Whitehouse, and Pytleski.  Bolchen and Waldrop along with junior Jaden Ciesielczyk – De Pere round out the all-defensive team.  

Trista Fayta, in addition to being the Player of the Year in the conference, was also chosen as the Defensive Player of the Year.  Fayta was the second leading scorer in the league averaging 18.5 points a game which was just behind Claire Bjorge at 19.8.  Fayta ranked first in the conference in steals, averaging  4.8 and first in assists at 7.8 per game.  Second team player Alex Siudzinski of Southwest averaged a double double, scoring 11.2 points a game and pulling down 10.6 rebounds a game.

Pytleski, Bjorge and McDermid all became 1000 point scorers for their careers during the 2023-24 season, while Gracie Grzesk is now the all-time career leader in points scored for the Notre Dame Academy Tritons.

Sara Rohde of Notre Dame Academy was chosen as the Coach of the Year for 23-24.  This is the third time that Rohde has been selected as the coach of the year.  Coach Rohde has led the Tritons to three consecutive WIAA Division 2 State Championships.  Notre Dame Academy is on a quest to make it four in a row in 2023-24.

FRCC Boys All-Conference Basketball

The FRCC Boys All-Conference team has only one repeat player from a year ago – senior Will Hornseth of De Pere.  This is Hornseth’s third time being selected to the first team all-conference.  Will is a unanimous selection this year and was a unanimous selection last year.  In addition, Hornseth was also selected as the 2023-24 Player of the Year and the Defensive Player of the Year.  Other unanimous selections to this year’s first team are Junior Zach Kinziger – De Pere and senior Drew Tomashek – Ashwaubenon.  Senior Jayden Schoen – Ashwaubenon, along Kinziger and Tomashek were second team all-conference selections last year.  Junior Cale Buboltz – Sheboygan North was an honorable mention selection in 22-23.  The final first team selections for this year are newcomers to the all-conference team.  They are juniors Colin Schultz – Pulaski and Pryce Gregoire – De Pere.

The second team all-conference selections are dominated by newcomers with the exception of senior Jackson Sims – Ashwaubenon, who was an honorable mention selection a year ago.  The other members of the second team include:  seniors Blake Buchinger – Bay Port and Matt Leonhard – Sheboygan South; juniors Brayden Steinbecker and Edward Bolchen of Manitowoc Lincoln, Adam Guyette– Notre Dame Academy and Roan Demovsky – De Pere.

The FRCC All-Defensive team has two repeat members in Hornseth and Kinziger.  Steinbecker, Demovsky and Tomashek along with seniors Owen Stengel – Sheboygan North and Dominick Adamavich – Sheboygan South make up the remainder of the defensive team.

Hornseth, the Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year was near the top of all the main statistical categories and that all-around play is what garnered him those player of the year honors.  De Pere’s average margin of victory of 36 points probably suppressed Will’s numbers slightly.  The De Pere senior scored 300 points in the conference averaging 16.7ppg, grabbed 115 rebounds (6.4rpg), dished out 63 assists and blocked 30 shots.  In addition, Hornseth shot 78% from the field.

Shultz of Pulaski averaged 18.5ppg scoring 314 points in 17 games.  Kinziger (330/18.3) and Tomashek (329/18.3) finished in the top 3 in scoring.  Steinbecker was the leading rebounder with 144 total rebounds.  Tomashek led the league with 97 assists.

Brian Winchester – De Pere was selected as the Coach of the Year.  This was Winchester’s third consecutive Coach of the Year honor.  Coach Winchester led the Redbirds to a WIAA Division 1 State Championship in 22-23 with an undefeated 30-0 record and he leads De Pere into this year’s tournament with the hopes of repeating as the Division 1 State Champions.
