The FRCC Hockey Tournament concluded on Saturday with top seeded Bay Port meeting second seeded Notre Dame Academy in the championship contest.

The defensive battle saw Bay Port defeat Notre Dame 2-1 to claim the FRCC title.  It is the Pirates third FRCC title and their first since the 2015-16 season.  Once again Devin Rustlie was stellar between the pipes allowing only 1 goal while turning away 37 shots.  Bay Port’s goals, which both came in the 1st period were scored by Konor Tignall and Adrian Vina.  The Pirates were able to make those two goals hold up in claiming the victory over the Tritons.  Andrew Ostermann scored the lone goal for Notre Dame on a power play in the 3rd period.

Notre Dame Academy came in to the contest as the five time defending FRCC Champion.

De Pere defeated Ashwaubenon in the preliminary game 3-2.  Evan Ott started off the scoring for De Pere and Landon Smith ended the scoring netting a goal in the final minutes for the victory.  Theodore Matheson scored the other goal for De Pere.  Ashwaubenon goal scores were Connor Viau and Charlie Laurent.  The conference bylaws state that the preliminary game will pit the loser of the 4 seed vs. 5 seed game against the loser of the 2 seed vs. 3 seed game.

The FRCC plays a single round robin schedule to determine seeds for the conference tournament.  Bay Port went 4-0 to claim the top seed, Notre Dame finished 3-1, De Pere 2-2, Ashwaubenon 1-3 and Sheboygan 0-4.

The four and five seeds Ashwaubenon and Sheboygan met on Thursday to determine who would move on to play top seed Bay Port in one semifinal game on Friday night.  The underdog Sheboygan won that game 4-3 in overtime.  Ashwaubenon took and early two goal lead, but Sheboygan was able to come back and tie the game in regulation and Drake Moberg netted the winning goal in the first overtime period.  James Korpi, Gavin Marx and Mason Scharl also recorded goals for Sheboygan.  Scoring goals for Ashwaubenon where: Braden Becks, Caden Czyzewski and Jackson Lampereur.

In the first game of Friday’s semifinals, two seed Notre Dame Academy defeated three Seed De Pere 5-0 with Lleyton Jaschke recording the shut-out in goal.  James Flanigan broke the ice with the first score of the game coming with only 8 seconds remaining in the 1st period.  Joseph Coghlin, Nathan Antti, Ian Noble and Dominick Mader notched the other goals for the Tritons.

The second semi-final saw Bay Port take control early, scoring 7 goals in the 1st period against Sheboygan.  Ian Greenwell started it off notching the first goal just 1:35 into the period.  Nick Voss notched a shorthanded goal shortly thereafter and it continued to snowball from there.  Bay Port’s Noah Brunke garnered a hat trick in the first period and the scoring was rounded out by William Lyons and Cole Molaski.

The Pirates Voss recorded his second goal in the 2nd period and Bay Port rounded out the scoring with Adrian Vina scoring twice in the 3rd period.  Bay Port was also stellar on defense allowing only 15 shots on goal by Sheboygan with Devin Rustlie getting the shut-out in goal.

Bay Port’s 10-0 win over Sheboygan set the match-up for the FRCC Championship between the top seeded Pirates and second seeded Notre Dame Academy Tritons.

The Conference Coaches met on Saturday morning to select the all-conference teams.  All-conference players were then introduced at the FRCC Tournament in between the preliminary game and the championship game.
