Following a football game played between De Pere and Pulaski at Saputo Stadium in Pulaski Friday night the following anecdote was relayed to the FRCC by the Athletic Director from Pulaski and we thought it was worthy of passing on.
Last night after the Varsity Football game at Pulaski (vs De Pere) I witnessed a display of great sportsmanship.
Pulaski won the game 28 to 10 and it was a hard fought game by both teams. Upon the conclusion of the game and after both teams were off the field and De Pere went to their team room, I watched three De Pere High School students (two with their uniforms on from the game and one other) walk up to the stands where their students once sat. I asked what they needed since all spectators had left and we already had the space cleaned up. The boys told me that often their student section was known to leave a huge mess and they were there to clean up. Wow! Two of these kids just played a Varsity game and yet displayed this leadership! Anyway, I thanked them and let them know how much I valued their leadership and sportsmanship. I also let them know that it was already cleaned up (our PHS Administrative team has a tradition of cleaning the stands with our students after the games.)
Kudos to those De Pere student athletes who saw the bigger picture and maybe a lesson for the rest of us. Think of how little effort it takes to pick up after ourselves at athletic events, at the movie theatre, or other events that we may attend.
Good luck to all and enjoy the school year.
